Fertomid is used to induce ovulation (egg production). It increases the chance of pregnancy in women who are having trouble conceiving. It works similarly to estrogen, a female hormone that causes eggs to develop in the ovaries and be released. It is usually taken once a day for 5 days, starting on the fifth day of the menstrual period. Women who do not have menstrual cycles can begin taking it on any convenient day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor to explain any part you do not understand. Take Fertomid exactly as directed. Do not take more or less than prescribed by your doctor.

Fertomid may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these side effects are severe or do not go away: flushing, upset stomach, vomiting, enlargement of the ovaries, headache, abnormal vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain.

Before taking Fertomid – tell your doctor if you are allergic to Fertomid) or any other medications, about what medications you are taking, aboutif you have or have ever had abnormal vaginal bleeding, liver disease, uterine fibroids, a pituitary tumor, adrenal disease or thyroid or ovarian cysts. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking Fertomid, call your doctor immediately.

Fertomid may cause blurred vision. Do not drive a car or operate machinery, until you know how this medication affects you. Fertomid increases the chance of multiple pregnancy (twins, triplets etc). Consult your doctor about the risks of multiple pregnancy.
